Going On A Couple's Camp Out? What Type Of Sleeping Bag Should You Take?

Posted on: 14 November 2016

The next time you and your significant other start planning a camping get-away, be sure to go over all your gear. There may be pieces that need to be repaired or replaced. There may also be some things you meant to buy after your last trip but forgot about. Either way, you want to have everything you need all ready to go before you start packing. When you need to buy or replace your sleeping bag, you can choose to go with two separate bags you can zip together if wanted, or a single bag designed for two. Here are the pros and cons of each.

Two Bags Zipped Together

If you each have your own bag, you can use it when you are not going to be together without having a bigger bag in your gear. This can be very important if you are going on a long hike and need to carry your own stuff. When it comes to zipping them together, two bags allow you to open your side a bit if you get too hot. Remember, body heat will make things very warm inside.

Of course having two bags together also means that more cold air can seep in around the zippers when you are on a winter camp out. When sleeping together, if one person rolls to the side zippers might end up under you. This can be cold and uncomfortable.

One Double Bag

One double sleeping bag is great for keeping you both as warm as possible. In addition, many are designed to have a bottom that is thicker and/or resistant to any moisture from the ground. While single bags may also have this, once you zip them together one-half will have the designed bottom on the ground. The other half will have the bottom on top because it will have been flipped to zip it to the other one.

Most double sleeping bags are not as large as two single bags together. This keeps you closer together and prevents the movement afforded by two bags.

Think about the weather and how much freedom of movement you want before buying your sleeping gear. You want to be comfortable all night long. Of course, two bags or one double bag will each work if that is what you have. However, if you are going to be spending money on new gear, you might want to consider going with the option you do not currently have. This way you will have the best of both worlds. Staying Safe While Camping

After I decided to take my husband camping in the wilderness, I realized that things were going to be challenging. He had never been camping before, and he was always a little nervous. However, when we were in the middle of the wilderness, I realized that there were a few things that we actually needed to worry about. I spotted a few wolfs in the distance, so I decided that we needed to board up in the truck for the night. All night long we were surrounded. After that experience, I worked hard to scout out better camping grounds and learn techniques to stay safe. On this blog, I will share some of my learned tips on camping.
